BrainSTARS: Brain Injury: Strategies for teams and re-education for students
For any teacher, clinician, support staff, or parent who wants to understand how a brain injury can affect a student's ability to learn and function in the classroom, this manual is filled with information, tools and strategies that will help the student and school staff. This manual was reviewed by an Advisory Board of parents, school personnel, and students with brain injury, as well as by a group of national experts and has been extensively field-tested with parents and school teams. It represents current best-practices in the education of students who have acquired brain injuries. This manual is also used as an in-service program when combined with the DVD (includes 120 slides, author giving presentation, pre and post test).

BrainSTARS DVD features a comprehensive 2 hour, 15 minute in-service training program on the developmental and educational impact of acquired brain injuries in children and youth. It is designed for educators with an emphasis on assessing the educational needs of students with brain injuries and developing educational programs to address their cognitive challenges. Presented by Jeanne Dise-Lewis, author of the BrainSTARS program and manual, the training DVD is accompanied by a CD with 120 slides on Power Point. You can use this to conduct your own in-service training or as a reference.
The supplemental CD also contains PDF files to print:

Heads up: Concussion in High School Sports
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention created this tool kit as a result of an education initiative to help coaches prevent, recognize, and manage concussion in high school sports. Kit contains:
· a concussion guide for coaches
· a coach's wallet card on concussion for quick reference
· a coach's clipboard sticker with concussion facts and space for emergency contacts
· a fact sheet for atheletes in English and Spanish
· a fact sheet for parents in English and Spanish
· an educational video/DVD for coaches to show athletes, parents, and other school staff
· posters to hang in the gym or loack room
· a CD-Rom with additional resources and references.
Brain Injury Recovery Kitÿ
The Brain Injury Recovery Kit (BIRK) was created by Lisa Keller. Lisa sustained a brain injury in 1993. She used her recovery to create a remarkable tool for individuals and families that struggle with brain injury. The Brain Injury Recovery Kiet is a step-by-step approach to recovery that can be tailored to each individual's needs and can be used at an individual's own pace.
